1968 Chevrolet Corvette
The all new 1968 Corvette sported a sweeping new design change from previous Corvettes. The all new styling resembled Chevrolet's Mako Shark II concept car and was a bold new look. The new Corvette also introduced hidden windshield wipers and removable T-tops on Coupe models. A new three speed automatic transmission replaced the previous two-speed unit.
Under the hood, the Corvette gained several interesting engine options, including the 327 cid V8 L79 rated at 350 hp, and the L89 aluminum head option for the L71. The rare L88 engine option was still available for a whopping $1,032, and just 115 were sold.
The 427 engine option remained a popular choice among performance seekers. Identifying the 427, was a special domed hood that allowed for engine clearance. Mandatory options included an aluminum radiator, heavy duty brakes, and the Muncie M-22 transmission. Luxury options such as Power windows, power steering, and radios were not available. Corvette production rose to a new all-time high of 28,566 units.

| Serial Numbers were stamped on a plate on the left front door hinge pillar (center pillar on Corvair). The Fisher Body number plate on the right-hand side of the cowl gives additional information such as the body style number, the production sequence number, the trim (upholstery) number code and the paint number code. Axle Codes
Location Of Axle Codes: The axles for Chevrolet will be built by Chevrolet Buffalo, Chevrolet Gear and Axle, Buick, Oldsmobile, and McKinnon. Divisional Manufacturer code letters will be metal stamped on the axle tube adjacent to the carrier for identification. Metal stamp on left rear axle tube on the rear side, letters and numerals 3/16 in. high, 3 in. outboard of carrier.
