The biggest changes for the 1963 Mercury Comet included the new chrome that ran from the top of the front fender all the way down to the back of the rear fender and then down and back around to the front again. The taillight protruded from the rear deck panel and the grill featured four vertical headlights. This was the last year for the sporty Custom and S-22 series options. The Custom series included horizontal bars on the front and rear fenders, side window trim, deluxe upholstery, a white steering wheel with a bright horn ring, rear seat armrest, a cigarette lighter and a front door dome light switch. The S-22 pretty much had the same as the Custom with the exception of six taillights that made it easy to identify (Instead of four taillights).

I've owned many classic and antique cars over the past 25 years. I recently sold my beloved 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe (which was a great show-quality vehicle) because in the SF Bay Area, many of us can't "afford" multi-car garages...let alone, multiple cars!?

So, having recently moved to the Bay Area has been a blessing and a "curse." I hated having to let go of my old Chrysler (you can see it at its website: http://ourworld.cs.com/drewpearson2000), but with the beautiful weather we have here (little rain) it was time to find that perfect convertible... and I have!!

Back in April 2004, I came across a classified ad for a 1963 Mercury S-22 Convertible and luckily it was in a city within 20 miles of me! Once I saw this beauty, I had to have her. I've always been one to own "odd" classics...ones that aren't just like all the others on the road. My Comet absolutely fit the bill. I just love driving her around the Bay Area and San Francisco!! What a Joy!!

I hope you enjoy the photos.
