First Year!
The Chevrolet Impala was first offered in 1958 as a new top of the line, sporty trim package for the Bel Air. Chevrolet's 1958 lineup featured one year only styling that sported "curves where before there were lines." The new Impala option added deluxe interiors, special trim, and was the highest price in the Chevrolet lineup. Performance was important from the begining as the '58 Impala could be optioned with a 348 with 315hp. First year sales soared and the Impala was a popular option that soon became a symbol of performance in the early sixties and is credited by many with prompting the full-size muscle car era of the early sixties. |
