1953 Studebaker Commander

The Fashion Academy of New York presented its Gold Medal for outstanding style to the Studebaker. The overall design could be credited to Robert E. Bourke, chief of the Loewy Studios in South Bend. They were hailed at the time as being a "New European Look." Definitely awarding in and of itself, but also some would argue, the finest styling of the entire decade. Consequently, the new design slowed down production and the demand grew higher for coupes rather than sedans while the company had planned for just the opposite. All in all, there were 7 different Studebaker Commander body styles to choose from and approximately 76,092 were built.
