 Vehicle Description
Following the tremendous success of the Model T The Ford Motor Company launched the Model A in 1927. This new Model A (a previous model had used the name in 1903-04) was designated a 1928 model and was available in four standard colors. Production of the Model A ended in the early part of 1932.This beautifully restored 1931 Ford Natural Wood Special Delivery Model A has a Tan metal front with black running boards and fenders and a wooded body that is in excellent shape inside and out. This Model was designed for merchants serving top-end customers. The sales price was $695 and was considered much too expensive for the times since it was in the height of the Great Depression. One could buy the full metal delivery van for a tad over $400. Just 680 were produced from 1928 to 1932. Powered by the original water-cooled L-head inline 4-cylinder engine paired with a conventional 3-speed sliding gear manual unsynchronized transmission with single speed reverse. This 40 HP motor boasted a top speed of 65 MPH. The Model A was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals throttle and gearshift. The interior is very well done with black carpeting and wooded paneling. This Model A has a factory dashboard and gauges a very nice front bench seat with rear passenger jump seats. The windshield is clean and clear and has working wipers. The Model A was the first car to use safety glass in it windshield. The wheels of this Woody are beautiful wire spoked wheel and the is a delivery side mounted spare with ford cover. With the end of production in March 1932 4858644 Model As had been made in over 30 body styles.
