On October 9 & 10, 2015 the Cape Fear Cruises Car Club and Southport Tourism Department will bring Southport back to the 1950’s and 60’s with the Second Annual Classic Cars ‘n Rock ‘n Roll Weekend.
This event is filled with fun for Classic Car and Rock and Roll enthusiasts. Classic Car registration will be held at the 1950’s restored service station on the corner of Howe and 9th street Friday and Saturday from noon until dark. Registration forms are also available on our website, www.capefearcruisers.com. There will be a cruise-in on Friday afternoon around 5 PM and Saturday morning at 10 AM bringing the Classic Cars to downtown Southport where they will be on display until 9 PM each night. At dusk on Friday night you will be able to see a classic Drive-In movie at Taylor Field located at the end of Nash Street. There will also be street dancing downtown with classic rock and roll music brought to you by DJ Billie V.
On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast presented by Southport’s Fire Department at 7:30AM. You will also find vendors at Water Front Park beginning at 9 AM and Classic Cars lining Howe Street, entertainment at Howe and Bay Street beginning at noon. The entertainment includes live music with the local Jam Sandwich band in the afternoon and The Flying Saucers band playing from 6 until 9 PM, DJ Billie V spinning the hits of the 50’s and 60’s, refreshments, a street dance, a vintage dress contest, a dance contest, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. You can vote for your favorite Classic Car with People’s Choice ballot. There will be prizes for the Classic Car traveling the longest distance to the event and a “survivors” award.
