Skips Fiesta Drive In closed in July, 45 years ago, this year. Three months after, the Owner William "Skip" Nielsen passed away. Polk Brothers bought it, tore it down in the early 80’s and sold part of the land to what is now McDonalds.
The stories are legendary on what happened at 1st and North Ave. every weekend for 22 years. All those Hot Rod movies make you think Hot Rod Cars and Burger Joints where only California. Not True! Chicago was into it strong since 1948 and Skips was the place to be.
Cruising has dwindled at times but never left. Skip's Tribute Cruiser’s is a car club that meets every Monday at 1st and North Ave. still to this day.
All car buffs from back in the day welcome to come by and share the memories of days gone by with friends and fellow car enthusiasts at the former location of Skip's Fiesta Drive Inn.
Entry Fee $10. Room for 800 cars!!!
