Event Dates: July 26, 2014 - July 26, 2014 Location: Vermilion, Alberta
Back in 2007 I became a T4 (Nipple line) paraplegic. The short story is I fell in the shower and ruptured my bowel, and that lead to a large abscess roughly the size of a football around my spinal column, pinching it off and killing the nerves. Over the next 7 years, I've been through surgery 19 times. Not sure if I get a free pizza if I reach 20, but I'm not really interested in finding out.
But, this didn't kill my passion for cars, and for a long time I've had the idea for a car show to help benefit people with spinal cord injuries. So last year the Handicapped Hotrods Carshow was born, with all the proceeds going to the CPA (Canadian Paraplegic Association).
Well, we're doing it again this year. Only this year we've chosen a date without any other carshows in the area, hopefully meaning a larger turn out. It'll be the same day as the Vermilion Fair (July 26), so hopefully there'll be more people in town to come by and check it out. We are also going to be doing a pancake breakfast the day of the Parade (July 24, the Thursday before the show) and have lunch that same afternoon. Of course, once again all proceeds will be going to CPA.
So if you're in the area, or feel like a road trip, come on out and help make this event a success and help raise money and awareness for a good cause. The CPA helped me out a lot when I first became paralyzed and they continue to help me, and many other people who end up in a simaler situation.
