Rusty Abandoned Classic Cars from the 40's
By rustyrides
Uploaded April 21, 2008
Welcome to 1940, a time when the automobile was starting to change the way that people lived. With minimum wage equaling 43¢ per hour it’s no wonder cars only cost between $850 to $1420 and the price of a gallon of gas averaged 14¢. However, car production was brought to a halt as major automakers gathered their efforts and resources to make products for the military and aid in the war overseas. Before the War, the US produced some 4.6 million cars.

After WWII had ended, the world would be a different place. Advances in technology brought about change and the microwave oven and Velcro were invented. The first power windows were introduced and thankfully for our safety and well-being, drivers education was offered at many high schools around the nation. And more importantly, cars were being manufactured again and would lead into the innovations of the 50's.

Whether restored to its original beauty, used as a parts car, turned into a hot rod or just left to rust, this gallery serves as a tribute to those great cars of the past.
