The club was formed in 1993 and the name Villa Capri came from a restaurant that was located on Moosic Street here in town. This was an old haunt for many of the club members in the late 50's early 60's. If you had a hot car back then this is where you went to show off your machine. Next door to the Villa Capri was an ACME Market, this also was a gathering spot for performance buffs in the late 60's. Right up the road on Rt. 307 there is the famous Quarter Mile. This was the site that men and some ladies where seperated from boy's and girl's, if you get my meaning.
In the spring of 1993 the word went out to any one who hung around at these sites in years past, or just an individule interested in forming a club, to meet at the Doughnut Shoppe on the top of Moosic Street at a prescribed date and time. The turn out was way beyond the expectation of the organizers. This was all it took and the rest is history. To date the Villa Capri Cruisers are over 60 members strong.
The Villa Capri is long gone but something really neat happened that year. The newly formed club made arrangements with the owners of the beverage center and furniture store that now occupie the former sites of the Villa and ACME to use the properties for a Labor Day Reunion. This has become a annual event as old friends, some who haven't seen each other for many years, stop by to show off there ride's or just say hello and reminisce the old days. Along with this there is a Car Show held every year on Fathers Day at Nay Aug Park in Scranton. This event draw's over 400 entries, consisting of all types of motor vehicles. We also hoast a variety of other happening's such as Cruise Nights or Cruisein's at area venues. Some of these events are for charity others are promotional. |
