 Vehicle Description
Theres no doubt that Ford was hitting on all eight cylinders when they rolled out the 1952 F1, and this bright yellow pickup hits all the right notes. With a warmed-over flathead under the hood, a gorgeous custom interior, and that attention-grabbing paint, its everything youd want your favorite workhorse to be. With most of these getting standard red or green paint, the bright yellow finish is sure to stand out at a show. And while it wasnt on the color chart for 1952, high-visibility colors always seem to work well on trucks, especially when it was common to have them custom painted for business reasons. However, this one was built purely for pleasure, and that means careful attention to getting it right. The paint looks appropriate on the 60-year-old sheetmetal, and while our cameras dont quite capture them, there are ghost flames on the front end. Although its clearly a custom truck, all the trim survived the makeover intact. From the cool single-bar grille with its three "teeth" to the sleek hood trim, everything has been plated or polished so it looks fantastic. For hauling, bring some cardboard to protect that beautifully refinished floor, which is highlighted by color-matched slats between the lovely wood planks. Neatly finished in gray fabric with yellow trim, the interior hangs on to its roots while giving you a few updates to help civilize the F1. The original bench is comfortable with its fresh upholstery, and matching door panels with narrow pleats are a nod to the custom era. The original gauges are still nestled into the all-steel dash, but a set of Auto Meter auxiliary gauges have been fitted down low to keep an eye on the hot flathead under the hood. The original steering wheel and long-handled shifter remain to give you the feeling that youre really driving a truck, with turn signals added for safety. Forget "upgrades" like A/C and a modern stereo, you wont find them here and I bet you wont miss them, either, because this truck is just too much fun to drive. Once you hear that flathead, you wont be reaching for the radio ever again. The flathead in question has been fitted with all sorts of period speed equipment, including an Offenhauser triple-carb intake and a matching set of Offy heads. Someone must have spent a huge amount of time tuning this engine, because even with the multiple carburetors, it starts easily, idles smoothly, and pulls cleanly from any speed. Thats no easy task, never mind having to do it with three carbs. The transmission is a 4-speed spinning the original rear end, so performance is lively around town and it happily cruises at highway speeds. The chassis is highly original save for some re-arched springs to give it that lowered stance and a set of smitty mufflers that sound fantastic. 15-inch steel wheels are finished in basic black with trim rings and hub caps, along with a set of 225/75/15 whitewall radials for a truly custom vibe. Yes, this truck is every bit as cool as it looks. This is what you hauled your Bonneville racer with in the 1950s, and today its every bit as cool. Call now!
