A clean slate for creativity .. camper conversion / guest house / studio / work space / man cave / storage shed. Originally Custom made by Mobilab, this aluminum bus with a blue strip, model 1002 drivers education mobile classroom bus was built on a Dodge chassis. There are no windows except for in the front driver area, though it does have two small adjustable air vent openings on the side and two roof vents with fans. It originally had 9 drivers education driving simulators in it. The instructor would show 16mm driving films from the back to a screen across the front of the bus and students would practice reacting to what they saw on the screen. A computer in the back would then record their progress. The simulators, projector, screen, and computer are all gone now, leaving a wonderfully unique empty silver Airstream-like shell on the outside, and a mostly finished empty inside. This rare vehicle has been my four wheel drive shed for the past 12 years but now it needs a new home. If you like unique Airstream-style busses, here's a classic. The closest thing out there is in the high end Airstream trailer family. I have no doubt that this would be a hit at a vintage Airstream park or show! As with the Airstream, aluminum alloy skin was used in its construction which means you don't have rust to worry about. This is an absolutely cool looking bus with rounded top front and back and a classic flat front grill. This bus also has a unique rear exit door / stairway and an arched main door with a crash-bar. There is some minor floor damage by the right front and by the rear door from window & door seal leaks and of course the exterior could use some buffing for that Airstream shine or a custom paint job, and the rear bumper area needs some minor body work, but all in all it's in great shape! This bus has a wall mounted electric heater behind the drivers seat and a large Coleman air conditioner mounted underneath the floor and ahead of the right rear wheels, as well as a generator bay and some extra storage space underneath on the other side. There is a rear mounted external RV type Hubbell 50A 25 / 250V grounding plug for hooking into external power source to run the 5 ceiling lights and 3 florescent ceiling lights as well as some wall outlets. This rig comes with a Custom Mobilab drivers seat, front curtains, a lockable rear fill fuel tank, and has automatic transmission with shiftable tandem four wheel drive. It has a low mileage 212 H.P. Premium 318 CU. IN. 8 cylinder gas engine that probably could use a good tune-up. It is currently not running as it has been sitting for a few years but did drive to it's current location The tires all hold air and are mounted on 6-lug nut wheels. The bus is 9' - 8" tall with tires, 34' - 8" long bumper to bumper, and 8' - 6" wide. This unit comes with a clean title and is centrally located in Seward Nebraska.
Here is some information from a metal plate on the dashboard:
Rear axle cap. 10000
Rear axle. 48
Max G.V.W. Lbs. 70HD
Trans. 3 Auto
I was told that "what they did is use 2 dana 70 rear ends and made a set up to go over the first one, back to the rear dana 70 using a new process 205 transfer case." There is a lever to the left of the drivers seat that I think engages the second rear axle as a drive axle. I never used it as a 4WD vehicle but it looks like that's what it would do.
Asking only $4500.00 for this one of a kind bus!
