 Vehicle Description
This 1954 Chevy 3100 Advanced Design Chevy is a restoration project completed at M&J Restorations. Primarily beginning in September, we started the restoration of this 1954 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton pickup. We invite interest in this just completed restoration project.

This 5-window pickup was built in Janesville, Wisconsin. The "on the column" Hydramatic transmission was a rare but factory option. The pickup was running until I parked it a couple of years ago. We started it in October and March and both the engine and transmission are fine.

This is a total frame off restoration. The frame and sheet metal had all paint and rust removed. Sheet metal was disassembled from the body and we've repaired or replaced as necessary. We have replaced the front fenders to get the quality you would want. The older sheet metal was too labor intensive to repair. The cab corners were fairly good but we made some minor sheet metal repairs to the bottom edges of the cab. On the windshield, we had a six inch area under the rubber to fix which was minor. The floors were solid but we made some minor repairs for a solid floor. The sheet metal was immediately sealed and primed after rust removal to prevent any new rust. We disassembled the running gear and sent the frame over separately for rust removal. It was cleaned, primed, and painted. The engine was cleaned up and has a fresh paint job to match the original and correct engine color.

We changed over and installed all new wiring and a 12-volt system. Otherwise, we kept this pickup as original as possible. There are some enhancements. For example, we changed out the original grille with a new chrome grille. We've decided to defer on the audio system. We think it appropriate for the new owner to decide on whether to install an 'original' style radio on the dash or a new one that's disguised so it doesn't detract from the original appearance. These and a few other options are open to a buyer after completion. The bed had some service but the bed sides were in great shape. It looks like the loads and duty were modest. We've rebuilt the bed with new ends, stainless bed strips, and new finished bed wood.

The running gear is stock and the original engine is the standard 235ci 6-cylinder with the factory Hydramatic transmission. We overhauled the carburetor and replaced the fuel pump. The engine and the transmission are working fine on a road test. All numbers matching as built.

The completed restoration has a show quality paint job. We decided to make this pickup more faithful to it's production by painting the original paint schemes with a Mariner blue body and white roof. Feel free to come out to the shop and inspect the pickup and see if you are interested in this project. This classic original could be a very friendly daily driver and/or will show very well at any classic car event.

We finished this project in March. Not bad considering all the details to be worked out. Prices for restored pickups of this type and quality are difficult to judge but we feel the asking price given the project requirements and labor is fair at $35,000.

If you want us to reserve this vehicle for you, please talk to us.

Thanks for looking.
