There may be "only one Jeep," but you certainly see a lot of CJ-5s and CJ-7s on the market these days (and we have some very nice CJ-5s in our showroom, by the way). But something you don''t see every day is the CJ-8 Scrambler, and nice examples are even harder to come by. The CJ-8 is about 10 inches longer than the CJ-7 (which is about 10 inches longer than the CJ-5). Jeep only produced the Scrambler for five years, from 1981 to 1986.
This 1981 Jeep Scrambler has a great look thanks to a recent repaint to a high standard in Dark Green Metallic. The finish quality is excellent and all body panels are straight with good gaps; the steel tub is in great shape throughout. The truck is currently set up with fiberglass doors, a roll bar, a rear seat and a practically new Bestop full soft top -- but we also have a pair of soft doors, the bulkhead for behind the front seats and the original fiberglass half top. It''s the ultimate in Jeep versatility. Front and rear bumpers with built-in recovery points and all four fender flares are new, as are all lenses. The interior floors have been Rhino lined for durability (with the roll bar coated to match), but this is one of the cleanest, neatest Rhino-lining jobs I have ever seen. The floor pans and all edges, ridges and seams still look clean and crisp. This Jeep is also nicely detailed underneath without a speck of rust.
Under the hood is AMC''s legendary 4.2 liter straight six -- these engines are torquey and quite durable; with barely over 100,000 miles, it''s just getting broken in. This Jeep has the desirable four-speed transmission and power steering. The engine runs well; clutch, gearbox, steering and brakes all feel great.
With a 5-inch suspension lift and 35x12.5 Mickey Thompson MTZs on nice MT alloy wheels, you''ll have no trouble tackling the toughest terrain. It''s no doubt "trail rated" but this Jeep''s in-town road manners are surprisingly good.
