1921 Maxwell 1 1/2 ton truck For Sale in Chicago. This 21 Maxwell has an inline flathead 4 cylinder engine with a 3 speed manual transmission. The rearend is a Wormdrive style. This has a MANUAL CRANK start, which means you have to hand crank the engine over. There is also a manual choke and gas shut off valve. There are no gauges, and there is no key, but there is a switch to power up the truck. This Maxwell has been beautifully restored, and is highly detailed. The wood steering wheel and vinyl bench seat are in great shape also. The clutch and parking break function properly. Headlights turn on with the switch that powers up the whole truck. The wood wheels are nice and the tires are in great shape. The removable top looks brand new and comes off easily. There is seating in the bed if you wanted to put this truck in a parade. This is a beautiful restoration. For a time, Maxwell was considered one of the three top automobile firms in America (though the phrase the Big Three was not used) along with Buick and Ford. By 1914, Maxwell had sold 60,000 cars. In 1925, Chrysler formed his own company, the Chrysler Corporation. That same year, the Maxwell line was phased out and the Maxwell company assets were absorbed by Chrysler. The Maxwell would continue to live on in another form however, because the new line of 4-cylinder Chryslers which were then introduced for the 1926 model year were created largely by using the design of earlier Maxwells. These former Maxwells would undergo yet another transformation in 1928, when a second reworking and renaming would bring about the creation of the first Plymouth.
