 Vehicle Description
Before the Ford Bronco, before the K5 Blazer, before the Land Cruiser, before the Range Rover... There was the International Scout. Introduced in 1961 to compete with the Willys Jeep, the Scout was America's first truly civilian off-road sport utility vehicle. International Harvester debuted the Scout II in 1971, which ran largely unchanged until IH ceased producing passenger vehicles in 1980.

This example is without a doubt the best-looking Scout we have ever seen, and with a V8 and automatic transmission, it drives as good as it looks. Recently restored to a high standard, this 1980 Scout II is very correct, from great-looking paint in original Tahitian Red Metallic to the rare "waves" applique along the side. We place a high priority on originality and correctness here at Motorcar Studio, and this truck has correct upholstery inside, its original steering wheel and its original AM/FM stereo with 8-track in the dash. In a tasteful bow to modern convenience, there is a new CD player with aux input discreetly hidden in the center console. The carpet is brand new.

Body panels are straight and rust free with good gaps -- even the doors are nice and level and close easily (these giant Scout doors can be bad about sagging, but not on this truck). The underside looks great, too -- door posts, jambs, rockers, floor pans are super solid and rust free.

Under the hood is the desirable 345 cubic inch V-8 mated to a Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission. Front and rear axles are both Dana 44 with 3.31 gears. The engine has a documented rebuild history with fewer than 5,000 miles since overhaul -- it runs great. Exhaust is new, as are the ProComp 32x11.5 tires that give this truck an awesome stance.

This was a highly optioned truck, with factory-installed goodies such as power steering, power brakes, and sliding rear quarter windows in the removable hard top.

In short, this Scout runs great, sounds great, looks great and drives great.

The truck is very well documented, with the original line-setting ticket and window sticker -- plus a whole file folder with service records. Both the paint color and awesome retro striping are indicated on the build documents -- the one certainly stands out from the crowd.
