 Vehicle Description
Toyota developed its first-generation Land Cruiser in the early 1950s in response to the growing demand for military-type four-wheel-drive vehicles in Japan -- and its resemblance to the Willys Jeep was unmistakable. The second-generation FJ40 debuted in 1960, and by 1965 was the best-selling Toyota in the U.S. (granted, all Japanese sales were pretty low in the face of Detroit's pre-gas-crisis supremacy at the time). But the FJ40 has achieved quite a following in the 50 years since its introduction thanks to iconic design and incredible off-road capabilities.

This example, a hard-to-find 1966 model, is highly correct and unmolested and has just received a thorough mechanical and cosmetic freshening. Fenders are uncut, dash is uncut, steering wheel is original, steel wheels are original, seat frames are original, gauges are original... From the original Aisin carburetor (with a glass viewer into the float bowl) to the oil-bath air filter and original glass bowl on the fuel filter, this truck is bone stock. About the only modification under the hood is the oil filter mount relocation to make oil changes easier and less messy.

Mechanically, the original 3.9 liter F motor runs great and the whole truck is very well-sorted. The column shifter feels great and is still incredibly precise even after 45 years. The dash-mounted four-wheel drive controls function well, and both high and low range work properly. The steering and brakes feel great, and there are new brake cylinders on the front wheels and new shocks all around. This FJ also has a new muffler and new fuel, temp and oil pressure sending units. The original gauges, indicator lights and dash illumination work flawlessly. Always cranks on the first try, even on the coldest days.

Yes, it handles like a tractor. No, it doesn't have air conditioning. Or a radio. But it is awesome.
This FJ40 is a head-turner and always gets comments wherever I drive it.

Cosmetically, the truck looks as good as it runs. It was recently repainted in correct Dune Beige, with correct white top and grill surround and correct pewter bumper. The doors are in excellent condition and the windows roll up smoothly and easily. The stock wheels are running brand new BFG all-terrain 31x10.50 tires that give this FJ a great stance. Front and rear seats have brand new upholstery, there's new weatherstripping on the doors and new seals on the side windows in the top. Front floor mats are fairly new with plenty of life left, and there's a brand new thick rubber mat for the rear cargo area. This FJ comes with a good looking (and very useful) safari rack on top and brush guard on the front bumper. They're easily removed if you're a purist, but we love the more aggressive look and the utility they provide.

The truck is remarkably complete, with the original spare tire carrier on the back (with an extra spare on top in case you get into trouble on the trail) -- and the original tool kit in the smuggler's box under the driver's seat.

It's probably too nice to take off road more than a few times a year, but that torquey inline six is unstoppable in low range. In short, we're offering a very correct, turn-key classic FJ40 with a great look for a great price. Give us a call at 404-692-5250 for more information.
