This is a very rare truck that is very collectible. The elegant Chevrolet Cameo truck was introduced in 1955 and for the first time in truck history, a modern design brought passenger car styling features into the truck world. The fiberglass rear fenders were widened to the same width as the front end and gave a flowing look. The interior was also designed with more of a passenger car look.
Cameo production ran from 1955 to 1958 with only 1,405 total trucks built during that time period. How many can possibly be in existence today?
This 1958 Cameo is being offered for sale by the owner who unfortunately cannot complete the restoration. The truck is 80% done and the hard work has been completed. This is the prime opportunity to own a rare and desirable pick up with modern conveniences yet an all original body. A period look with a comfortable ride!
This truck is a North Carolina truck that is rust free. The paint is black and in excellent condition. All chrome to this truck is original as well as the grill, headlight bezels, and door handles which have all been re-chromed except for the front bumper and 4 pieces. At first the owner did not think he could use the original body panels so he bought a reproduction set. He was advised to use the original panels as all they need are a new gel coat. Both sets are being sold with the truck. The factory fiberglass tire holder is there as well as the factory tail gate.
The chassis was taken to Charlotte and a Fat Man front end was put under it at the cost of $5500.00. Truck has new tires and new wheel centers. The engine is a 1987 350 cid 4 bolt main, rebuilt and put back to factory specifications. Rear is a 12 bolt rear, brakes are disc, steering is rack and pinion. The hard work has been done on the engine, only about 20% is left to do such as throttle linkage and it does need a new battery.
The interior has a recovered seat and new gauges. The door panels are metal. All window regulators are there. Vent glass is new. The AC unit has been installed but needs to be completed.
This truck is located in NC and is available for viewing by appointment.
