 Vehicle Description
If youre in the old car hobby, youve undoubtedly heard of Amos Minter. Famous for high-quality early Thunderbird restorations, any car with the Amos Minter shops signature on it is probably about as good as they come. This 1955 Thunderbird is a multiple award winner, and the rare Goldenrod Yellow paint will make it stand out at any show at any level. Theres a definite difference between perfect 1 quality cars and all the rest, but since true 1 cars are so rare, its hard to calibrate your impressions. This car has presence. However you want to define it, it shines brighter than most other cars, and the intangibles that our eyes often overlook pick out little details here simply because theyre so right. Dig the fit of the doors and fender skirts, the way the body crease lines up from one panel to the next, and the way the deck lid fits perfectly flush with the fenders. The chrome on any 50s car is a major expense, and if they spent less than $25,000 on the brightwork on this T-Bird, Id be shocked. It sparkles like jewelry, fits exactly, and shows no signs of age or even that it was mass produced. Heck, the whole car looks like it was made by one very meticulous guy with a lot of time on his hands. Impressive! If you wanted a black and yellow interior, the only way to get it was by ordering a Goldenrod Yellow car. But aside from the colors, it remains the same glorious Thunderbird interior that captured hearts back in the 50s. But just look how well those seat covers fit, how smooth the carpet is, and even how neatly the top stows under the black vinyl curtain behind the seats. Again, like the trim, all the brightwork in the interior has been expertly refinished, including the engine-turned panels that stretch across the dash. All the instruments have been restored and are fully functional, including the clock, and the AM radio still sings beautifully. A black canvas convertible top looks right and fits well, along with a removable porthole hardtop painted to match the bodywork. Pop the trunk and youll find a fifth matching steel wheel, a complete jack assembly, a correct mat, and even reproduction jacking instructions. No detail was overlooked during the restoration. The restoration was completed 298 miles ago, so the engine bay still looks spectacular. Ford knew the Thunderbird had to be special, so the 292 cubic inch V8 got lovely finned valve covers and a chrome air cleaner that actually draws air through the hood scoop. Detailing includes reproduction hoses and clamps, correct tags and decals throughout, and new wiring that matches the factory stuff exactly. The chassis is equally spotless, with Goldenrod Yellow floors, a reproduction dual exhaust system, and all-new hardware throughout. It rides on correct 15-inch wheels with wire wheel covers and proper bias-ply whitewalls. Getting a car to this level is never cheap, and this very rare Thunderbird represents the opportunity to own a proven show-winner (first place at the St. Johns Concours, by the way) for less than the cost of restoration.
