 Vehicle Description
If youve ever heard tales of a police car going head-to-head with the hottest cars of its day, a car like this 59 Biscayne is likely the basis of those stories. The beneficiary of a three-year frame off restoration, the laser straight body panels of this pursuit car wears a slick coat of deep blue paint. From the distinctive chrome grille to the cat-eye taillights, every piece of trim on the car presents well and accessories like the fender-mounted CB antenna give the car the authoritative presence a police car should have. While Zora Arkus-Duntov may be best known for his work on Corvettes, this Biscayne is proof he could get the best out of any GM product. The car carries what is believed to be one of 40 Duntov-spec 348cid V8s with solid lifter, a special cam, high compression pistons and 11.1 compression, good for 305 horsepower. Sporting fresh orange paint, a 3755011 casting number and a June 5th, 1959 date code, this period-correct mill runs every bit as good as it looks. Backed by a Saginaw three-speed dated May 19th, 1959, the transmission is a good match and a blast to shift. Out back a 3.36 rear end puts the power to the pavement while the police-package heavy duty suspension gives the car a mean stance and confidence through the corners. Built for speed, the car keeps things basic with manual steering and drum brakes at all four corners. Body-matched steel wheels topped with dog dish hubcaps and modern Goodyear rubber connect the chassis to the road. Inside a simple, but beautifully designed blue and gray interior features little in the way of amenities but does come with a period correct Motorola CB. Dont miss the chance to own this truly unique example of a one-year GM design!
