1958 Chevy Apache 31 Series ½ Ton Step-Side Short-Box
The heritage of this vehicle has been verified by GM Vintage Vehicle Identification Services.
It was built in Oshawa, Ontario and sold to a Calgary, Alberta area farmer in 1958. It has all of the chrome accessories available at the time including factory fog lamps. The cab still contains the original correct, date coded factory glass. This well maintained truck was discovered in 1984 after 26 years of extensive farm use. Alberta s high altitude, low humidity and the lack of road salt contributed to its superb condition today.
It was relocated to Ontario where its body was rejuvenated and then sprayed in a blue metallic finish. The original worn factory fabric interior was also updated in keeping with the vintage look of the day.
It is powered by a Task Force Triftmaster overhead valve 235.5 cubic inch in-line 6 cylinder engine producing 145 hp. and 215 ft./lbs. of torque. That output passes through a 3 speed manual Saginaw transmission controlled by a column mounted shifter. The rear 10 bolt differential contains a 3.90 gear ratio which delivers torque to the rear wheels. This truck is fitted with Remington wide white wall 7.80X15 Polyester 4 ply-bias tires mounted on 6 bolt 5 1/2” X 15” steel wheels.
It was safety-certified in Ontario and licenced with historic plates in 2016. At that time the odometer read 16,205 actual miles, although it is believed to represent 116,205 miles it could not be verified.
It has been proudly driven for several hundred miles while attending various classic cruise events. It has proved to be very reliable transportation and drives like a demonstrator may have back in the day.
