 Vehicle Description
The 1964-and-a-half through 1966 Mustangs need no introduction. Beautiful, sporty, easy to own -- they are the quintessential American classic car and true automotive icons. The first-generation Mustang was a phenomenal success for Ford; more than a million cars were produced in the first three years of production. However, the vast majority were coupes. At fewer than ten percent of production, a Mustang Fastback is considerably rarer -- and undeniably sexier -- than a coupe.

This example, a highly-optioned 1966 Mustang GT clad in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue racing stripes, is a nicely restored car all around. Paint quality is very good; panels are straight with good gaps and the trunk bottom and rockers are solid with no known rust issues. The underside has been recently detailed. Glass, rubber, bumpers and trim are very good -- the windshield and grille are brand new. The car has new tires on new 15" rally wheels.

The attractive two-tone blue interior shows very well; carpet, door panels, seat belts and steering wheel are new; seat covers, dash and headliner are older but still look great. All gauges, switches and indicators work properly (including the lighter to power your electronic gadgets). There''s an older two post AM/FM/cassette in the dash that works fine; the dash has not been cut so it''s good candidate for either a factory radio or a retro-modern upgrade.

This Fastback has an A-code VIN so it originally came with a four-barrel 289. Although the car is still badged as a 289 (including a nice set of 289 valve covers), it has a freshly rebuilt 302 under the hood mated to a rebuilt C4 automatic transmission. Fewer than 1,000 miles are on the engine and transmission. It runs and shifts beautifully and makes good power throughout the rev range. From the factory, this car came equipped with power steering and manual disc brakes -- it has been upgraded to power disc brakes at some point over the last 45 years. It''s also been upgraded to electronic ignition. The a/c system is either a factory or dealer installed setup (there''s no way to know for sure), but the compressor is new, the system has been converted to R-134 and it blows cold. In addition to the recent engine and transmission rebuild, other recent work includes a new master cylinder, new exhaust and new rear shocks and leaf springs.

We believe this to be a real GT -- it has the correct five-dial round gauge cluster, GT trim package (including globe box door, gas cap cover and rocker molding delete), dual exhaust, fog lights, stiffer springs, heavy duty shocks and front sway bar.

At Motorcar Studio we believe in exercising our ponies? We just participated in a classic car rally with the ''66 Fastback and it performed beautifully over the course of 250 miles. The car is well sorted and needs nothing. For more information about this classic 1966 Mustang GT Fastback available at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.
