 Vehicle Description
The Volkswagen Beetle (officially called the Volkswagen Type 1), informally known as the VW Bug, is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen since 1938. With over 21 million manufactured the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world. 1964 saw the introduction of a widened cover for the light over the rear license plate. Towards the end of 1964, the height of the side windows and windscreen grew slightly, giving the cabin a less pinched look which coincided with the introduction of a slightly curved windshield. This particular bug was purchased as a project in 1997. It was a winter project that took 5 winters to complete and was finished in 2002. It has technically been in the same family since 1997 as the person who did the restoration sold it to his grand daughter in 2007 that we now represent on consignment. It was a complete frame off restoration as every nut and bolt was gone through. The original 1200cc engine was replaced with a 1500 cc engine equipped with dual port heads. The original transmission was rebuilt with the intent of handling the extra horsepower form the larger engine as was the rear end. The color was changed to Porsches Speed Yellow and the finish of the paint still looks incredible! This car was factory optioned with a sunroof that works and seals perfectly. The interior was completely redone in a two tone black and grey and is mostly original except for the aftermarket stereo, the billet window cranks and extra gauges have been added for both the amps as well as the oil pressure. The odometer was reset in 2002 and the car has only been driven a total of 11,958 miles since. The overall condition of this Bug is well above average but we have priced it as an average car for a quick sale. So if you like what you see you better call us before it is too late!
