 Vehicle Description
Stk. 1695 1983 Avanti II

With a history in the transportation industry dating back to the days of making some of the original Conestoga covered wagons, Studebaker president Sherwood Egbert wanted to offer a true hand built car; not for the masses, but custom ordered cars made one at a time. The Avanti, originally conceived by Sherwood Egbert and designed by Raymond Lowey, became just that car and was produced in South Bend, Indiana by Studebaker. The Avanti established numerous speed records and won much recognition with the automotive community. This particular example we are offering is a second generation Avanti II model constructed in 1983. It is a three owner car that apparently spent the majority of its life in the south so no rust issues here. The original motor was replaced by its third owner in favor of a brand new 350 ci Chevy crate motor purchased some 8000 miles ago from a local Chevy dealer. It still sports its original three speed automatic transmission and drives and shifts smoothly. Its red acrylic paint was applied some 8 years ago and overall is holding up nicely with a little checking and cracking as one would expect with a fiberglass body of this age. The interior has been completely gone over including an all new headliner, carpeting and all leather seat surfaces re-dyed to original color. Even the wooden Nardi steering wheel looks as good as new. This is a wonderful driver that merits someones tender loving care to ensure that it is around for future generations to experience and admire.
