This 1960 Nash Metropolitan is located in our Louisville KY showroom. It was a barn find with only 9000 miles. It has been meticulously restored back to its original state. The motor, which is the original 1500 cc inline 4 was gone through and is back to putting out the original 55 BHP and having the 8.3:1 compression. The top was replaced and looks as good as it did when it came off the assembly line in 1960. In 1954 Nash merged with the Hudson company to form AMC. The Metropolitan was developed to be the first American fuel efficient car made. The only problem was it was not produced in the states. After research was done it was found to be more cost effective to produce the parts overseas. After negotiations with a number of companies Austin of England began production in October of 1953. This was the first time that an American designed car was built overseas only to be sold back in the states. Although the radio and heater were \"options\" all cars left the factory with these intact. This was also the first car to be directly marketed to women. They called it the best thing in a small package. This particular Nash was the first year of an actual trunk. Previous models had access only thru the back seat. This is really a great piece of history that will have everyone asking questions for many car shows to come.
