| Vehicle Description |
1963 Chevrolet Impala SS
VIN# 31867J231554
This 63 Impala SS was the only 1963 Chevrolet invited to the prestigious “Invitation Only” 50th Anniversary of the Mackinaw Bridge. This 63 Impala SS has won numerous awards around the country. It was featured in the July 2005 issue “Chevy Super Sports” of the Cars and Parts magazine.
This car is fairly well equipped starting with a very lively power train. The optional 300hp 327ci V-8 is teamed with a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.70 Posi rearend. It also has tilt and telescoping steering wheel, factory tachometer, radio and whitewalls and of course, the factory power top. It has Michelin tires and the factory caps. And then, of course, the crowning touch there’s that Super Sport option. This car is original and numbers matching.
The car is branded with serial number 31867J231554, which decodes thusly:
3=model year (1963):
18=series (Impala 8cyl);
67=body style (2dr. Convertible);
J=assembly plant (Janesville, WI)
231554=sequential production number.
The code on the trim tag decipher this way:
Style 63-1897 (63=1963; 1897= Impala 8-cyl. Convertible);
Body JA 4889=Kansas City, MO plant production number 4889;
Trim 831=blue vinyl;
Paint 914=Monaco Blue.
There is no code designation a Super Sport as the SS was just an optional package and not a separate model or series.
This Impala SS has 3900 miles since the “body off” restoration. The car has an AM/FM/Cass installed but I have the original AM push button radio.
In 1963, SS equipment included: Individual front bucket seats; center console with an SS emblem mounted on a swirl pattern panel on cars fitted with the four speed manual or Powerglide automatic.
Look this car over, it is all stock and it is all immaculate. The power top is perfect, works great and comes with the boot. As you can tell, these pictures were taken on a crisp autumn day; the boot was cold so I did not snap it down.
The only flaws on this car are that the gas gauge does not work and there is a small blemish near the driver rear tail light.
You don’t find cars like this very often. Don’t miss out on this one. This is not an “average” car and is only for the discerning, exceptional buyer.
