Here is your chance to own a piece of Pontiac history and complete it to your likings. I bought this car in 2004 as an In-process restoration from the 4th owner in Washington State. I have the names and numbers of all owners to the car dating back to when it was purchased new (original owner passed away unfortunately in the mid-80's) have spoken with the original owners son and received 2 photos of the vehicle when it was raced 1962-1964. Also have the PHS documents for the vehicle. Clear Washington State title as well.
This Catalina SD 421 is number #77 in Pete McCarthy's book Pontiac Performance. Serial Number: 43734 Engine Number: 251786 It was ordered with the 3.42 Posi-traction and 8 lug wheels. Original color is E Ensign Blue with tri-tone blue interior. Car was ordered WITHOUT aluminum fenders. All other SD components were aluminum including front bumper, bumper brackets, lower valance, nose cone, hood and inner fender wells.
Prior owner completed a detailed body off restoration of the frame, running gear, engine and interior. Frame and running gear are perfect to factory new specs using original and NOS parts. Interior: Front seat, rear seat, door panels, headliner, carpet, visors completely restored to factory correct colors and stitching. Wrapped and ready for final assembly.
Body: When I purchased the car the body was untouched. It was on a rotisserie and we set it on the frame for transport. After 2 years of owning the car I brought the body to a very skilled and detailed Rod Metal Shop locally in our area. His shop receives a lot of high end Street Rod projects from Canada and the United States. The body was disassembled and through this process close to 500 digital photos were taken of every square inch of the body. Body was then media blasted. Kenny then combed over every area of the body and repaired any rust issues or otherwise light areas of the body to bring it back to factory original. Close to $20,000 was spent repairing any issue no matter how small and his workmanship was superb and the resulting body is beautiful! After metal work the car received a correct covering of Red-Oxide, then a primer coat on the top side leaving the bottom red-oxide.
What needs to be completed? Paint, body needs to be painted, as does interior trim pieces Assembly of the engine Assembly and perhaps some rebuilding of the Transmission. All pieces are complete however Body back on the frame Start re-assembling vehicle using countless NOS parts or restore the original marked parts.
What missing? When I purchased the vehicle the original Aluminum Hood and Bumper were missing. Kenny at the shop who did the metal work is building a correct aluminum hood for the vehicle using molds of original steel hoods and steel bracing. So while the aluminum hood that comes with the vehicle will not be factory, it will be a perfect reproduction. Front Aluminum Bumper Engine Camshaft Engine Rockers and PushRods (most guys use roller rockers to replace the 1.65 original rockers) Engine That beautifully crafted deep oil pan
Car comes with a huge assortment of NOS parts which were collected by the prior owner to complete the car.
