This awesome 1972 Chevelle SS doesnt just think outside the box, it thought all over the box and then burned its house down. The formula may be familiar (a big, honkin 396) but the details are what set this one apart from the also-rans that you see at all the car shows. Its impressive.
Following a 2-year frame-off restoration, this brute-force Chevelle delivers on every front, but theres no sneaking around the fact that the high-impact yellow paint is an attention-grabber. The Chevelles sheetmetal has been properly finessed, and is as attractive as it was in 72, theres really no reason to try to reinvent the wheel. Note the gently flared fenders, the pointed hood with a custom scoop, and that black vinyl roof accents the subtle crease on the C-pillars. Vivid yellow paint is period-perfect and the SS stripes look right on the A-body sheetmetal, although as you can see, there are a few tricks here, too, including flames licking across the hood scoop that will have most onlookers doing a double-take. Finish quality overall is very impressive, but its also nice to see that they didnt go too far outside the factory parameters, including a black vinyl top that uses factory-style materials to keep it all OEM-looking. Bright chrome bumpers, a blacked-out SS grille, and arguably the most attractive Chevelle front-end with single headlights and outboard turn signals.
The black interior also keeps it pretty stock, but the quality and detailing make it stand out. Bucket seats and a console are a given on a flashy SS like this, and the upholstery is quality reproduction stuff that replicates the factory quite nicely. SS door panels are a part of the package and fresh black carpets look great. A full complement of factory instruments, including a tach, is augmented by a trio of dials just above the center console, so nothing happens under the hood without you knowing about it. Factory A/C is always welcome, as is the digital AM/FM stereo with factory 8-track under the dash which is a cool nod to the past. Theres also a rear-view camera system, an anti-theft unit, as well as power windows and locks, so this muscle car feels a lot more luxurious than youd expect. The trunk is nicely finished with a correct mat, full-sized spare, and a thumping subwoofer enclosure that sounds amazing.
The built 396 inch big block provides the kind of effortless torque that makes it a dominant force on the street. Chevy Orange paint, some absolutely gorgeous cast aluminum valve covers, and an open-element air cleaner make it sparkle, but the hardware is OEM, so its also reliable. Edelbrock supplied the carburetor and theres an HEI ignition system to light the fires. Ceramic-coated long-tube headers feed an exhaust system with a crossover and Flowmaster mufflers, and it looks impressive against the clean chassis. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic that snaps through the gears with authority when youre running hard and almost seamlessly when youre just cruising and the gears in the rear pumpkin are just right for a car with this much torque. Big 17-inch American Racing alloys totally fill the wheel wells with 255/45/17 Kumho radials.
With big-block power and attractive looks, this big yellow Chevelle is stunning in more ways than one. Still very fresh and ready to cruise, this one will make a nice addition to any collection. Call today!
