First-generation Thunderbirds are one of those timeless cars, like the 57 Chevy and 1965 Mustang, whose appeal is universal. The sporty 2-seat interior is finished in bright red and white, which perfectly complements the exterior paint job. It appears that much of the interior is original, with the notable exception of the seat covers, and if thats the case, it shows you how well-maintained this car really is. The door panels are quite good with exceptionally well preserved engine-turned panels that match those on the dash. The original gauges are fully functional, fitted under the factory dash pad with a large plexiglass window on the back side of the instrument pod for a very cool effect. The only deviation from stock is a later AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the original radios location. The trunk is finished with fresh black carpet, and an early non-porthole hardtop is included. As a car that has seen plenty of happy miles on the road, this one runs extremely well and has been recently and extensively serviced. The 312 cubic inch V8 was new for 1956 and delivered 255 horsepower when equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor as this one is. The carburetor has been recently rebuilt, the engine wears proper Ford Red paint, and those lovely Thunderbird cast aluminum valve covers are worth the price of admission all by themselves. This Bird also features power steering, a new heater, and a fresh dual exhaust system that gives it just the right tone for a personal luxury car from the 50s. Underneath its solid, original, and clean, so you can drive with confidence without worries about road grime, and wide whitewall tires on the original steel wheels give it an appropriate look, and it wears a set of later Ford wheelcovers.
