 Vehicle Description
In 1965, the horsepower wars were heating up, and even formerly stodgy old Oldsmobile was getting into the act. Of course, we all know what kind of amazing performance machines theyd turn out in the coming years, and in 1965, if you wanted serious performance with a side of luxury, the 442 was the smart choice. This 1965 Holiday coupe is a real-deal 442, which, experts will note, was just an option package in 65. No need to be subtle when youre packing 425 cubic inches of big block power, so when this one was restored in 2003, they gave it a bright red paint job, just in case. Theres a purposeful look to cars of this vintage, designed to be functional as much as beautiful, and the Olds Holiday coupe has great proportions and chiseled bodywork that shows extremely well. Its every bit as straight as it looks in photos, with great gaps and those massive rear quarters have been smoothed to an extremely high level. Dig the pointed crease that runs from nose to tail, then take a moment to check out how sharp it is-thats because someone spent a ton of time sneaking up on the edge without rounding it over when they were prepping the body. Nice! The trim is simple, with a wide grille, big chrome bumpers, and cool quarter panel trim ahead of the rear wheels that helps suggest big performance. This car is a correct W4 442, so it has all the requisite trim and badges, but theres no denying that Olds was not big on showing off with their 1 performance car. Where the big Olds really shines is inside, where youll find a rare red bucket seat interior with center console. Nicely finished, it definitely gives the GTOs and Rivieras a run for their money in terms of luxury. The only notable change from stock is a billet steering wheel wrapped in red leather, but it looks right at home in the ultra-clean interior, especially with the bright metal fascia on the dash. The original instruments are fully functional, and theres a trick console-mounted tachometer just ahead of the cue ball-tipped Hurst gearshift. 442 badges adorn the instrument panel, right above the newer AM/FM stereo head unit. New red rubber floor mats blend right in, yet strangely dont seem like too much red, and in back theres a correct trunk mat with full-sized spare. GM wouldnt let Olds put a D-code 425 in the 442 when it was new, but that doesnt mean it wont fit. During the frame-off restoration, a suitable big block was located and rebuilt, and it shows just over 20,000 miles since the work was done. The big engine looks great in the Holidays engine bay, too, wearing an Edelbrock intake, shiny chrome valve covers, and a 4-barrel carburetor. Long-tube headers dump into a robust-sounding dual exhaust system, and while youre under there, note how well this frame-off restoration is holding up-the floors are immaculate! Theres also a new gas tank, 3.27 gears in the 10-bolt rear, and a lovely set of color-matched wheels wearing BFGoodrich T/A radials. Even in bright red, this is a seriously nice, seriously fast sleeper, just as Oldsmobile intended. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
