DESCRIPTION
In 1967 and in high school, my best friend set about the task of convincing his fairly conservative father to purchase as a family vehicle, this wonderful 1967 Pontiac GTO. Indeed, I was there the day they took delivery and my friend was elated. Designed by John Delorean, the Signet Gold body and interior color and permanent black top combine to lend to this car an air of quiet sophistication. Yet it's looks bely the power of the 400 cubic inch, 335 horsepower motor and the quickness of the automatic "his and hers" shifter that runs beautifully to this day. 76,000 approximate miles are all that has been recorded on this car and the attention it has received over the years has been nothing short of amazing. .After "babying" the car from 1967 to 2010 my friend's father passed it on to my friend who in turn asked me if I would like to purchase the car. I bought the "family heirloom" in 2012 and have owned it ever since. Washed and waxed frequently, this car has always been garaged and covered, using a custom made cloth cover with the letters "GTO" sewn into the aft portion. I drive the car on sunny days as well as to and from car shows. Admittedly, this GTO still loves to "get up and go" and it does so simply by you stepping on the gas pedal. This beautiful 1967 GTO does the rest, kicking in the original, numbers matching, 400 CID engine and transmission. (Checked by my mechanic and verified by PHS). The interior is original as well, down to the AM radio where we would listen to KJR radio, Seattle.
When I took posssesion I had my mechanic "clean up" the engine (not a rebuild), paint it in original Pontiac engine paint and get the car completely "up to snuff". He did so knowing I was chomping at the bit to get the car out and on the road. It runs magnificently and I insisted that he keep the car as close to original as possible.
I had a wonderful time riding in this remarkable car when I was in high school and have very fond memories of the fun my best friend and I had in the late sixties. When we could wrestle the car from his dad on Friday nights we would head for "Dick's Drive In" and "pose" to our hearts' content. Interestingly, the faux leather cover on the steering wheel that you see in the pictures was placed there in 1969 by my friend and I in an effort to "sport up" the car. e rally wheels were added for the same reason. If you desire, I have the original five rims and hub caps.
Over the years my friend's father has taken impeccable care of this car, as did my friend and it shows nearly 50 years after the date of purchase. Indeed, if you want value, lease keep in mind that May 2017 is the 50th anniversary of the date this car was purchased. What better way to celebrate that auspicious date than by owning this remarkable automobile.
