1968 Camaro SS -

1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS paint color : blue type : coupe drive : rwd fuel : gas transmission : manual title status : clean cylinders : 8 cylinders

condition: excellent

This is a 1968 Camaro SS it originally came With a V8 not sure on the size, and a manual trans not sure what type, the original Color was British Racing Green with white Stripes, it was built in late 1968 in Norwood, Ohio plant. The car is number 15 out of 137, 958 built in that year. I found the car on line in 2006 after my mother passed away and decided to buy it. In my younger days I always had hot rods but with getting married and having kids I had to put the cars on the back burner fore while. I bought the car out of North Carolina. It had a 1975 454 truck motor in it Single 4 barrel carb. I had it dyno tested and found that it only had 180hp and 175lbs of torque@ the rear wheels I was not very happy with the performance. So being a car guy I decided to add a few new parts Edelbrock performance heads, new camshaft, roller rockers, and a 800 Holly carb.
After doing the parts swap which took a few days I had it dynode again and it''s now making 425hp and 450lbs of torque at the rear wheels but something went wrong on the dyno It spun a rod bearing. I now had to rebuild the lower end .I had it bored out .60 over which makes it a 468cid it has 9.5 to 1 compression. I installed a supercharger that makes 5 psi of boost that raises the compression to 12 .5 to 1 adding 40% more Horse Power and still runs on pump gas. It has 630hp@5300 rpm and 660lb ft of torque@4100 rpm now I am happy. It has a 12 bolt posi rear end 3.73 Gears, Muncie m22 Rock Crusher Trans, 830 Holly dual feed / double pumper carb power coated blue and chrome, frame connectors, electric exhaust cutouts, drag radials. I also changed the instrument cluster with up dated gauges. I have replaced the stock wheels and tires with polished aluminum torque thrust 15x8 rims, I have also added new chrome power brake booster, master cylinder, valve covers, headers, and had some engine parts chromed. I installed and painted the new hood with an opening to accommodate the supercharger as I did not want to hack up the stock SS hood. I did keep the stock SS hood. The rear floor boards have been placed and the interior has had sound proofing added, along with new carpet. The trunk has been finished out also. This is still a work in progress as we all know; you are never done working on a hot rod. I repainting the car it had some cancer popping on it so I fixed the rust. This car has never been to the strip and probably will never go it will need to have a cage installed and I am not putting one in. I enjoy restoring old cars.
