The list of fun, affordable V8 muscle cars is getting shorter all the time, and the late Monte Carlo SS is one of your last chances to get some rear-wheel-drive muscle without spending your kids college fund. This 1986 SS coupe is an ideal example, nicely preserved, never modified, and loaded with options, making it a smart investment as well as a lot of fun to drive. These big GM coupes never look so good as when theyre finished in black, and the long nose/short deck styling definitely works. Perhaps its the blend of the formal roof line with the SS ground effects and graphics that make it so appealing, but there are few more recognizable cars from the 80s than this. That black paint looks extremely good, particularly considering the era in which it was applied, and its quite rare to find one of these that has been so carefully maintained-usually they were beaten to within an inch of their lives and driven into the ground. The big doors fit well, the urethane front bumper doesnt show the usual scuffs from tall parking curbs, and theres a shine that suggests a lot of weekends spent looking after the paint. The original red and orange stripe decals are also in excellent shape, with no fading or peeling. Its not perfect, but its awfully nice. A burgundy bucket seat interior was the only choice in your new black SS, but GM went the extra mile to make it look suitably sporty. The seats themselves show only minor wear, mostly on the drivers side bolster where it obviously gets the most wear, but the upholstery itself is nicely preserved and not faded by the sun. Round analog gauges are bright and crisp, including an anemic 85 MPH speedometer and a tach that parks itself at 900 RPM when you turn the engine off. The SS included a long list of standard features and this one packs almost every available option including A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a high-end AM/FM/cassette stereo with graphic equalizer (remember those?). Heck, even the original floor mats are still protecting the carpets! The trunk looks completely unused, including the original space-saver spare that doesnt look like its ever seen pavement. The only engine was GMs 305 cubic inch V8. Torquey and with a great V8 exhaust note, it made the SS more than a poser, but it wasnt intended to be an all-out street racer, either. With the myriad of upgrades available with little more than a phone call, its rare to find one thats 100% stock like this. From the air cleaner to the exhaust manifolds, it is just the way the factory intended. The neat thing is that all the little stuff like the A/C fittings and even the master cylinder are all bright and shiny, so you know this cars had an easy life. A 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission was the only choice, and 3.42 gears out back make for easy cruising and lively acceleration. A custom exhaust system was recently installed so it sounds like the V8 muscle car that it truly is. Original 15-inch alloys are extremely nice and wear 215/65/15 BFGoodrich radials. Complete with maintenance receipts and some original documentation, this SS will always have a place in the collector car world. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
