 Vehicle Description
The Torino was the newest Ford in 1968, with the GT at the very top of the lineup. This extremely clean Sportsroof was restored just over 2000 miles ago, and still looks and feels like a new car. If your mid-sized performance jones leans more towards the Blue Oval, this is the car for you! Ford realized that the sloping rear window helped with aerodynamics in a big way, and rushed to incorporate it in their bread-and-butter Fairlane to help with the NASCAR tracks. The result was the Torino GT. This GT wears a correct coat of code Y Sunlit Gold, an unusual yet striking color that is big on subtlety. Straight sheetmetal is a necessity with stripes like this car wears, and with a lot of extra care going into the paint job, the results are outstanding. Quality like this doesnt come quick or cheap, and more than four years were required to get this car to this level. The paint was buffed and smoothed so it shines like glass, and the metallic in the paint gives it a glow thats hard to quantify until you see it. All that work has paid off, and unlike its cross-town rivals at GM, you wont see one of these at every show you go to, making the unique paint all the more special. Chrome is also fully restored, as is the full-width front grille that was new for 1968 and the blacked-out tail panel thats instantly recognizable as a Ford. The lovely gold bodywork is matched by a code 6Y gold bench seat interior. Equally nice, the seats feature correct seat covers, there are proper gold carpets on the floor, and those might very well be the original door panels, which speaks well of this cars pedigree. A dealer-installed A/C system hangs under the dash, although all the hardware powering it is new and modern, making service easy. The dash features four round gauge pods with basic instruments inside, all visible through the spokes of a woodgrained steering wheel. Entertainment is via a fresh Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo in the dash, and the entire interior is able to offer both upscale luxury and a sporty look. The trunk is massive, although the Sportsroof body style limits the opening, and inside youll find a matching GT wheel and spare tire along with a full jack assembly. While base Fairlanes received a wheezing six-cylinder engine, the Torino GT came standard with a torquey 302 cubic inch V8. Fully rebuilt and dressed up in Ford Blue with Cobra trim, its a neat fit in the Torinos engine bay. Against the black inner fenders and firewall, the small block really pops, and the new A/C system components have been neatly installed with an OEM look. Little stuff like the tower hose clamps and reproduction coil mean that someone cared about doing it right, and thanks to a big aluminum radiator up front, this is one cool customer. Its backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and a rugged 9-inch rear end, all attached to stock suspension components. A new dual exhaust system sounds gnarly and classic GT-style wheels are wrapped in 215/70/14 Uniroyal white-letter radials. Unbeatable on the track, these Torinos are screaming bargains compared to their GM A-body competition, and this one is nicer than most. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
