 Vehicle Description
The story on this 1967 Nova SS is simple: its a real code 18 V8 SS, it carries its original L30 327/275 engine, and has been painted (mostly) in its original shade of Bolero Red. Its also a slick mild custom, thanks to a two-tone paint job and nicely dressed engine bay. One glance at the cowl tag tells you that Bolero Red with a black vinyl roof was this Novas original color combination, and when the restoration began, taking it back to stock was probably the plan. But then someone had the idea to ditch the vinyl top and emphasize the subtle kick-up behind the doors, and suddenly a two-tone paint job looked pretty darned cool. Separated by a simple white pinstripe, the two-tone treatment looks natural on the Novas crisp sheetmetal, dont you think? The quality of the workmanship is impressive, even up close, and the ripple-free bodywork is evidence of long hours of tedious block sanding. Once the paint was dry, they installed new bumpers and a fresh front grille, along with proper SS trim like the rear tail panel. All-new tinted glass was fitted, too, giving it a mildly sinister look that suits the potent Nova just fine. Black bucket seats were on the original cowl tag, too, so all they had to do is order up some fresh seat covers, new door panels, and a complete set of carpets to return it to original condition. Theres also a center console with a Hurst shifter atop a Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed manual. The original gauges were beautifully rebuilt, including the clock which, incidentally, keeps perfect time, and both the original AM radio and optional rear speaker were retained. All the rubber weatherstripping and window channels were replaced while the car was apart, so its tight and rattle-free today. New black rubber floor mats with the SS logo on their faces were thrown in for good measure, and the spotless trunk carries a full-sized spare and jack assembly. The engine is the cars original matching numbers, L30 327, which was rated at a stout 275 horsepower. Thanks to its diminutive size, this engine made the Nova a formidable adversary on the road, and even today provides wildly entertaining performance. Rebuilt in 2009 with an .030 overbore and new flat-top pistons, it runs beautifully today, with a cackling exhaust note and a very muscular idle. The engine bay continues the two-tone theme with carefully chosen break lines for the black and red paint, closely mirroring the exterior bodywork. The block was painted to match and topped by a set of handsome finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner. That aforementioned Muncie transmission is linked to a rugged 12-bolt rear thats been fully rebuilt and filled with 3.55 gears on a Posi limited slip. A new gas tank, fresh shocks, and a stock style dual exhaust system are just other parts youll never have to worry about, and it wears 14-inch Rallys with 215/60/14 BFG radials. So you can call it a custom, but only the factory could make a Nova SS this cool. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
