Would you believe that previous to this cars restoration, it had been sitting indoors in Elkhart, Indiana for almost fifty years? After being purchased in 2005, the owner hired one of the top custom restoration shops on the east coast to restore and customize this all steel 1928 Chevrolet. Rod Crafters Inc out of Welcome, North Carolina took the aging Chevrolet in and master craftsman Larry Shoaf performed his magic. This three year restoration process has been completely photo documented and the transformation from start to finish is absolutely remarkable. One of the real stand-out features of this build was the ingenious way they replaced the original fabric soft top. Rod Crafters found and incorporated a ribbed steel roof they recovered from a Pontiac station wagon that was dimensionally perfect, and flawlessly grafted it to the original steel shell to make it more weather proof. They also replaced all the factory internal wood bracing within the body with new strips to maintain proper rigidity. After final preparation of the body they layed down an insanely glossy, PPG two-stage base-coat clear-coat finish of Corvette Bright Yellow. Just in case youre wondering, that bumblebee yellow interior and exterior theme was composed based on the cars name: Miss Bee Haven. Wall to wall carpeting and four Mazda Miata bucket seats embroidered with Chevy Bow-Ties provide a comfortable foundation accompanied by a full-length overhead console housing a Sony/Pioneer two channel stereo as well as dome and map lights. The same Bow-Tie theme carries over to the custom embossed door panels also. The major highlight of the interior has to be the Clint Boyer autographed steering wheel. Keeping within the heritage and built with cruising in mind, a mildly built 350 now resides in place of its original four cylinder mill. A three-speed, Turbo 350 automatic channels the power to an eight inch; 3.08:1 rear end for miles of endless cruising and the new 16 gallon fuel cell ensures a reasonable range. A Heidts Super Ride front suspension with tubular control arms and rack and pinion steering was chosen for a smooth ride and responsive steering and out back a Mr. Roadster four link suspension coupled with a pair of QA-1 12 position coil-overs. Four wheel disc brakes help bring her down smoothly and safely. If you love to cruise and dont mind people saying "Cool car Mister" than boy do we have your Hot-Rod.
