Stk. 1817 1962 Shelby Cobra 289 CSX 8983
Shelby American ceased manufacturing the original small block Cobra in 1965. In 1996 after a 31 year hiatus, Carroll Shelby returned it to the streets as the CSX8000 continuation series Shelby Cobra. Our Cobra, CSX8983, is a one owner North Carolina car with only 259 miles from new; and is the 34th 50th Anniversary model to be built. All 50 limited edition street Cobras were painted Shelby Black over a rich Shelby American Rosso (red) leather interior complete with Wilton Wool carpeting throughout and a full compliment of Shelby/Stewart Warner logo gauges set in a classic drop-down dash. Distinctive 50th Anniversary badging adorns the hood, rear deck lid and steering wheel along as well as the fenders with a hue that positively glows and conveys the craftsmanship that has gone into this rare and special Shelby. CSX8983 distinguishes itself from the others under the bonnet. Rather than settling for a standard cast iron block, the owner chose to go with the Carroll Shelby Engine Company and their epic 356T6 aluminum, CNC machined 289 block that was bored and stroked to a final 331 cubic inches. In addition, Shelby/AFR aluminum heads with one-piece stainless 2.08/1.60 valves and high silicone dual valve springs were used along with an internally balanced Scat stroker crank, Scat H-beam rods and Mahle alloy power pack pistons making up the rotating assembly. A period correct Cobra 4BBL intake manifold and Holley 650 double pumper adds more bang for the buck as does the Harland Sharp aluminum roller rocker arms, period correct Aviad 8 qt road race oil pan and Carter racing fuel pump. This mighty mill dynoed at a whopping 525.6 HP @6800 RPMs and 435.7 lb/ft of torque @ 5400 RPMs! A Shelby 3" DOM frame with Shelby adjustable suspension, 4-wheel Shelby/Wilwood brakes and rack and pinion steering supplies the skeletal support while a 5-Spd Tremec transmission channels the prodigious power to a Shelby Aluminum differential housing stuffed with Dana 44 gears turning Spicer split spline axles and a 3.54 final drive ratio. Final sorting of this rare and magnificent Cobra was performed by legendary Cobra specialist Dennis Olthoff of Olthoff Racing.
