 Vehicle Description
Its not often that rare, original and historically significant combine but, when they do, its something special. This 1961 Corvette convertible is a perfect cross section of those three qualities. Sold by Yenko Chevrolet to racer Ed Lowther, the car spent its early days being raced by Lowther as part of the Yenko Racing Team. Restored by Corvette specialists at Rons Auto Restoration, the car is now an NCRS Top Flight award-winning representation of how it left the factory. The slick fiberglass body is covered in a combination of Sateen Silver and Ermine White, then accented with a long list of show quality brightwork. Under the hood, the original 283cid V8 produces 315hp with the help of a Rochester fuel injection system. The block wears a proper 3756519 casting with a corresponding F0203 (February 3, 1961) assembly date, CS suffix code and matching 1105781 partial VIN to prove it came with the car originally. Backing up the potent small block is a T10 4-speed transmission dated WA412 (January 4, 1961) that sends power to a date-code correct differential. This C1 also has the distinction of being one of just 233 1961 models ordered with the code 687 heavy duty brakes and suspension that, when combined with the the code 276 15" x 5.5" wheels, turns the car into a factory canyon carver. Those wheels are wrapped in 6.70x15 tires for an authentic look. Inside, the restored red interior houses a deluxe heater and signal seeking radio within its stock dash. This car includes all original sales papers signed by Don Yenko plus a full ownership history and vintage SSCA magazines and pictures documenting the cars track use. One of a kind of worthy of any collection.
