 Vehicle Description
Some of you might be like me-you see this 1952 Plymouths flathead six-cylinder engine and dismiss it out-of-hand. Mopar fans will be quick to correct you, and if youve never driven a post-war Plymouth, we would like to invite you to try this lovely hardtop on for size. You will be impressed by its superlative road manners and performance. In short, these are some of the best driving cars of the era, no matter the price. The Belvedere was Plymouths upscale model, and with a hardtop body designed to compete with Chevys Bel Air, it was a slam-dunk. The styling was graceful and beautifully proportioned, even compared to the other Plymouth models that year, and the two-tone paint job, called "saddleback" where the top and decklid were painted to contrast with the rest of the body, gives it a unique look. This particular Belvedere has been neatly restored and lightly used, and the bodywork was expertly restored to take advantage of the smooth, flowing lines. Theres no rust, no sign of damage, and it has been very carefully reassembled following paint. And speaking of paint, it is single-stage, so it has an honest look that is period-correct, complete with the requisite two-tone that really makes it stand out. The chrome and trim were restored at the same time, and while flashy, its restrained compared to some of its competitors. The spacious interior is beautifully upholstered in correct-appearing striped broadcloth with burgundy vinyl details, mirroring the two-tone exterior and providing both durability and comfort. The workmanship is excellent, with straight seams and nice detailing that is probably better than new in any measurable way. The painted steel dash is nicely integrated, with a modest pod ahead of the driver holding the fully rebuilt gauges, and the radio living in the center stack. Those knobs and levers below the radio speaker are for the heater and defroster, which are always useful options if youre out cruising on a cool night. Carpets are new, door panels are beautifully finished, and the large trunk carries a reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire. As I mentioned, the 217 cubic inch inline-six under the hood is a serious over-achiever, with great performance and an eager attitude that makes it a pleasure to drive. Rated at 97 horsepower, smart gearing in the 3-speed manual transmission makes it easy to handle around town, and it will happily cruise all day at highway speeds. Parts are plentiful, and few engines are more rugged. Detailed at the time of restoration, it shows signs of regular use, which only means that its got a clean bill of health, with correct features throughout. The chassis and floors are clean and rust-free, with brakes and suspension that work as they should, with a comfortable ride and confident stopping. Four 6.70-15 wide whitewalls have been recently fitted and look awesome. Trust me on this one, you wont find a better driving early 50s car than this. Call today and find out why!
