 Vehicle Description
This astounding 1940 Ford coupe isnt your garden-variety hot rod. With the straightest body weve ever seen, impeccable build quality, a spectacular crocodile skin leather interior, and a sweet-running 350 under the hood, its an over-the-top build that probably cost twice the asking price to complete. There are guys who say their cars were "no expense spared" but the real proof is in the machine itself. Looking over this luscious black coupe, theres just no question that someone gave some of the best pros in the business a blank check and said, "Build me the finest 1940 Ford possible." The body is 100% steel, and has been restored to Pebble Beach standards. That means near-flawless panels, perfect alignment, gaps that can be measured with a micrometer, and probably a hundred hours in the paint job alone. It hasnt been chopped, channeled, shaved, nosed, or decked, but it most definitely has presence, and anyone parking next to this car at a show is going to be bitterly disappointed by how shabby it makes their car look in comparison. We almost feel like we need to give it its own display area here in the Streetside showroom. Yeah, it really is that nice. The interior alone cost more than $30,000, and you wont wonder where the money went. First of all, its elegant and upscale, and the workmanship would be at home in the most expensive luxury cars built today. Of course, the crocodile hide inserts wouldnt make it into production, but on a rod, theyre like an artists signature, and the effect is both exotic and luxurious. The seating surfaces show almost zero wear, and the matching carpets with bound leather edges have been protected by custom floor mats since they were new. The leather-wrapped dashboard is full of white-faced gauges behind a matching banjo-style steering wheel. A powerful AM/FM/CD stereo has been fitted with speakers throughout the interior, and a custom panel below the dash houses controls and vents for the A/C system. Building on the idea that reliability is as important as all-out performance, theres a 350 cubic inch Chevy crate motor under the hood. Nicely dressed in polished aluminum and chrome, its a bright contrast to the silky black bodywork, and its obvious that someone spent some time thinking about plumbing and electrical and how theyd look. Polished accessories are positioned high on the block for easy access, and a big custom radiator up front keeps it cool effortlessly. Theres a TH350 3-speed automatic feeding a 9-inch Ford with easy-cruising 3.00 gears, while the front suspension is a Mustang II setup from Heidts. The dual exhaust system has a great tone, but this car cruises quietly on the highway, and is a very capable long-distance hauler. Halibrand-style aluminum wheels wear big-n-little radials, 195/75/14s up front and 235/75/15s out back. Be careful when you look at this car, because its quite likely that anything else you see afterwards just wont measure up. Its that kind of car. Call today!
