 Vehicle Description
Now THIS is how you build a Ford hot rod. Leave the sheetmetal alone, give it a brilliant paint job, and for Petes sake, make sure theres a hot flathead under the hood. The 1939 Standard Tudor sedan basically took the 1938 Deluxe and ran with the design. And you have to admit, it makes for one heck of a good looking rod. Smooth, rounded, and extremely custom-looking with little more than shaved bumpers and door handles. The iconic grille seems to split the air like the prow of a ship, and even when new from the factory, the headlight rims were painted - giving them a look thats almost frenched. The bright red paint probably wasnt on the color chart in 1939 (Henry hated red because it was expensive) but theres no arguing that it doesnt look awesome today. The sheetmetal was nicely finished with tight gaps and smooth panels that are evidence of many hours of tedious block sanding. Thankfully they retained the original running boards and wrapped them in durable rubber mats, and all the remaining trim was polished up to sparkle brightly against the red finish. The teardrop 1939 taillights were indeed frenched into the rear fenders and a third brake light added just below the split rear window, so you know a true customizer was at work here. The interior features gray cloth upholstery over power bucket seats from a late-model Ford, but the original dash survived the makeover almost completely intact. Those are original gauges still doing their job, and their bright faces have been restored, not cut out and replaced. The big steering wheel looks authentic and a long shifter is still connected to a shift-it-yourself transmission underneath. And yes, thats a CB radio, which is fun out on the open road, and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo and amplifier have been creatively stashed in the glove box. Turn signals and a tachometer hang off the original steering column and you still start the beast with a bright chrome button on the dash, just like when it was new. Under the sloping tail, the trunk is impressively spacious and has been upholstered in black carpet for a finished but functional look. Retro is in, and theres nothing cooler than a flathead powering your vintage Ford rod. This is the 239 cubic inch version and its been fitted with period-appropriate speed parts like the finned aluminum heads and a dual carb intake manifold. Twin Ford 94s have been topped with chrome air cleaners, and the generator has been replaced with a chrome 12-volt alternator. With dual exhaust blowing through glasspack-style mufflers, it has a distinctive flathead sound that will get attention, and if you havent driven a vintage flatty, youre definitely in for a treat. The gearbox shifts lightly and the original banjo rear end hangs on a transverse leaf spring, as original. Forget custom 4-links, grafted-on frame stubs, and coil-over shocks, this one rides like it should. Matching steel wheels with 15-inch whitewall radials look right and improve the handling. If you dont want to be just another guy with a catalog hot rod, take the traditional route and enjoy this lovely vintage Ford. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
