| Cadillac called it the smaller DeVille, but in todays world, this handsome green sedan is anything but small. Representing the last of the full-sized American luxury cars, it sports a massive 425 cubic inch V8, that magic carpet ride for which these cars are justly famous, and a beautiful green leather interior. Some folks might call this car a survivor, and with just one repaint in the past 35 years, thats probably fairly accurate. As a southern car all its life, the sun can take a toll, especially on vintage paint, so its a good thing they did it right. That means good prep and blemish-free sheetmetal underneath, and a very period-appropriate shine that emphasizes the mint green color. OK, so mint green isnt everyones cup of tea, but if youre going to cruise in one of these land yachts, why not go all-out and get one in wild period colors? Theres plenty of shiny stuff to satisfy your urge for chrome, and all of it remains in very good condition with no trouble spots. We believe the white vinyl top is a replacement, since it just looks too good to be 35 years old, and theres no sign of rust or other trouble underneath. If tradition is your thing, then youll love the sumptuous green leather interior. With acres of soft, supple leather, its the ultimate luxury car, American style. Theres also plenty of faux wood on the doors and dash, but quite honestly, its very convincing and youll probably run your fingers over it trying to feel the grain-its quite good. By 1978, just about everything was standard in a Cadillac, including climate control, auto-dimming headlights, Twilight Sentinel (which automatically turned your lights on and off when it got dark), cruise control, and a period-perfect AM/FM/CB radio that still works. Theres plenty of stretch-out room in back, the kind of accommodations that people pay extra for in cars like the long wheelbase Maybach, and its all in remarkably good shape. Preservation class judging, your car awaits! The 425 cubic inch V8 was just a smaller version of the mighty Cadillac 500 cubic inch, and as a result, it makes effortless torque and moves the big sedan with the kind of creamy smooth ride torque normally reserved for machines with electric motors. One glance under the hood will tell you how well-maintained this car really is, with no signs of rust, but plenty of evidence of recent maintenance, including an upgrade to R134a coolant for the A/C. Power steering and brakes, traditional HEI ignition, and all the usual hoses and tubes are still in place, so this Cadillac runs it should. The TH400 3-speed automatic shifts effortlessly, and theres a proper muted hum from the exhaust. Four recent 215/75/15 whitewall radials have been fitted to the original wheels with wire wheelcovers.
