The 1957 Chevrolet is considered by many to be the most collectible American car ever built. A true automotive icon with unmistakable lines, it?s the quintessential classic car. These days you''ll find heavily modified, hot-rodded resto-mods with little trace of originality, or pristine trailer queens with a price to match. But this ''57 Bel Air wagon has been tastefully, mildly hot-rodded with just the right upgrades for performance and comfort, white retaining enough originality to satisfy our desire for period authenticity and correctness here at Motorcar Studio.
The car has seen one repaint in correct Dusk Pearl with Indian Ivory top -- a classic and attractive combination. This example is pictured with polished Americans with BFG tires -- but we are also including the original body-color steel wheels and hubcaps in excellent condition. The original chrome is in good ?driver? condition. The original spare is in the trunk, and the trunk rubber floor covering is in excellent original condition. The interior is all original and is in good, clean condition -- the headliner is excellent. Even the original factory radio is still mounted in the dash, and it has been professionally modified to receive both AM and FM stations. Aside from the wheels, this car has a great stock look inside and out (and I personally like the look of these Americans).
Under the hood is where most of the modifications are. Fewer than 1,000 miles are on crate 350 mated to a rebuilt TH350. Sure, it''s not original, but it''s a heck of a lot more functional and reliable than the stock drivetrain. The front brakes have been converted from drums to power discs for much better stopping; the front end has been completely rebuilt; there are new shocks all around with adjustable Aldin coilovers in the rear. Under-dash a/c blows ice cold. This car''s long-term owner has kept extensive records of all service work and improvements over the last decade.
In short, this is an unmolested, mostly original example with carefully selected upgrades to make it a comfortable weekend toy or cruise night car. Keep the Americans on it for an updated look, or put the steelies back on for an awesome retro look -- either way, it''s a head-turner and rare to find a wagon this well preserved.
