Perhaps the most famous racing Corvette of them all, the Grand Sport campaigned by Penske has inspired copies for more than four decades. But very few have been both this accurate and this potent, making this a street-legal historical ride that can run with some very serious hardware on the track. This Grand Sport Recreation was built by the preeminent builder of these cars in the country, so everything on this car is absolutely top notch and you will not find a better example anywhere, guaranteed. The body was formed using molds that were lifted from the original Penske roadsters, which are worth several million dollars and are more mythical legend at this point than cars you can actually purchase. Starting with a real 1965 Corvette roadster as a donor vehicle, this incredible Penske Grand Sport has the stripped-down look of a predator. Duplicating the original look may seem easy at first glance-just take off the heavy stuff-but in truth, it takes a lot of fabrication and great attention to detail. For example, consider just the clear headlight covers, which echo the shape of the original headlight doors. Someone had to make those from scratch. Then theres the wildly vented hood, flared fenders, and rear deck with its faired-in headrest and roll bar. None of that stuff was easy to make and took skilled craftsmen hundreds of hours to get to this level. The paint is the correct shade of Penske Blue with correct markings to accurately recall the greatest Corvette racer in history. Its probably safe to say that no race car ever looked this perfect coming out of a Penske shop. But the race look is just that-a look. Inside, youll find a neatly restored blue bucket seat interior thats inviting and comfortable for cruising, so you dont have to limit this amazing machine to the track. In fact, it was designed for comfort, with fresh seat covers, new carpets, and a tilt steering column topped by a wood-rimmed wheel. Its race heritage comes through with the simple aluminum gauge panel full of Auto Meter Ultra Light instruments and big, simple kill switch in the center stack. Forget heat and a stereo-one glance over that cut-down windshield, the roar of the side pipes, and the feeling of the unfiltered wind blowing in your hair will make youll forget why you ever wanted a radio in the first place. I wonder if the race version could have run with this modern interpretation. With a 383 cubic inch small block, its definitely bigger than Penskes hot-rods, and goodies like Edelbrock aluminum heads, forged TRW pistons, and a Holley carburetor, it barks out 469 real-world horsepower. Its beautiful to look at, too, with plenty of polished aluminum and chrome and a set of the most amazing headers youre ever going to see this side of a GT40. The chassis offers a full C4 Corvette suspension complete with front coil-overs and a Dana 44 out back. A Tremec 5-speed manual offers more flexibility than the original Muncie 4-speed, and the powdercoated frame is a work of art by itself. Custom color-matched Halibrand style wheels offer a set of big and bigger radials that have just enough sidewall to look authentic. If you like the idea of a race car for the street, especially a historical one, this Corvette will simply blow you away. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
