 Vehicle Description
If youre looking to get noticed, few cars can match this stunning 1937 Pontiac Silver Streak for sheer audaciousness. With a heavily modified body, a trick 350 with multiple carbs, and a luxurious interior stuffed with power options, its a trophy-collecting machine looking for a place to cruise. Bright pink might not be for everyone, but you cant deny that the bodywork is simply astounding. From the custom-molded 1940 LaSalle grille up front and faired-in headlights, to the chopped roof and ultra-smooth tail, there are thousands of hours tied up in the construction of this amazing Poncho. The hood was custom fabricated to work with the re-shaped nose and fenders, and all the trim was shaved for a smooth look. Show-quality paint and airbrushed graphics are the minimum when you build a rod at this level, and this one doesnt disappoint, with a stunning finish that will certainly draw everyones eye as you cruise past. Also note the beautiful details that are actually rolled into the sheetmetal, such as the design on the trunk and the "speed lines" on all four fenders, a detail that Pontiac probably should have included in 1937 it looks so right. Little details, like the molded-in taillights and flush-fitting power antenna are more proof that this is a well-engineered piece. The interior is tastefully finished in gray cloth, and features power Camaro buckets up front and a split bench in back. It all looks remarkably OEM in construction, and its obvious that the builder was going for a factory look with his choice of materials. The original Pontiac dashboard has been smoothed and re-shaped, and now houses a collection of AC gauges mounted in their own instrument panel ahead of the driver, while a powerful A/C unit has been mounted discreetly underneath. Radios were still a relatively recent innovation in 1937, but the stereo in this Silver Streak is a modern AM/FM/CD unit that feeds speakers throughout the interior. Other controls include an original-looking knob for heater control, and a switch for the power gas door that you have to see to believe. The trunk is finished to match, and includes an on-board air compressor for the air shocks as well as a full-sized spare for travelling. That wild-looking powerplant is a 350 Chevy topped by a quartet of Carter 2-barrel carbs that create a look straight out of the 1950s. Finned aluminum valve covers certainly dont hurt, and a bunch of chrome and billet dress-up gives it a show-car shine. Its neatly assembled, and the engineering is first-rate, making this a car you can drive cross-country without worries. Chassis modifications include a front subframe with independent suspension and disc brakes, a 3-speed automatic transmission, and the aforementioned air shocks in back. A predatory rake is achieved using 14-inch wheels up front and 15s in back, neatly finished Pontiac center caps. This turn-key rod has more tricks than we can possibly cover here.
