A small piece of automotive history, and a big story for Corvair enthusiasts. Our Race Prepared Corvair 140 successfully completed the grueling, 2008 La Carrera Panamerican Mexican Road Race. Gregory Shaw was the sucessful "co-piloto" of the Corvair. Seems he and his piloto, Dan Landon left their truck and trailer rig in Laredo,TX and drove the Corvair all the way to Tuxtla-Gutierrez (a mere 1,925 miles/ 3,155 km) to turn around and compete in the race. They were their own service crew! And, they made history due to the fact that, not only did they finish the race, but they finished it in the first Corvair ever to enter La Carrera Panamericana! (Did I mention theyre from Ballard right here in the Northwest? A little bit of regional pride is growing around here.) Photo credits and thanks to RoadRallyRythms.com
