Over the past few years weve certainly seen some nice weekend warriors, but this 1963 Ford Galaxie 500, with its 406 cubic inch tri-power V8 and tough Borg Warner transmission, is definitely one of the best! In typical 60s Detroit fashion Fords second generation Galaxie, adorned with long surfaces and creases that stretch from stem to stern, is incredibly hard to make straight once its been overhauled or reworked. Fortunately, the metal on this super cool drop-top has been subjected to a professional restoration that involved good panel alignment and an astute attention to detail. The cars classic flanks are very straight, leading me to believe it was a clean, rust-free canvas when the first sheet of sand paper was laid on its solid and sculpted body. And that bodys gaps are better than average, featuring doors that operate with precision, vertical components that are centered in their respective openings, and fresh and pliable weather stripping. Speaking of this Galaxies body, its long and flat hood hides a 406 cubic inch, tri-power Thunderbird Special V8 in a way that leaves no evidence as to the high performance fury the cars cocky traffic light opponent is about to unleash. That muscular 406s power is transmitted rearward through a correct Borg Warner T-10 4-speed transmission which transforms this would be boulevard cruiser into a drag strip battle ship with the flick of a wrist. Behind that gearbox, a large diameter driveshaft spins a buff Ford nine inch rear end which is ready to supply its new owner with years of hard launches and steady reliability. And at the corners of the car rebuilt heavy duty brake drums, which supply quick and precise stops, ride behind a nice set of 235/75/15 Firestone whitewall tires that are mounted to traditional, painted steel wheels. If youre looking for a stylish, comfortable, and reliable piece that still commands a lot of respect on the highway and at the local car show, this hot drop-top is your ticket!
