 Vehicle Description
The Superbird is one of those rare machines built to do just one thing: win races. It was hand-built, outrageously styled, and oh yes, it was very, very fast. And while they were a tough sell back in 1970, today they are the ultimate Mopar collectable, especially those with matching-numbers and a wild paint job like this one. Check the fender tag and youll find that this is, indeed, a correct Limelight Green Superbird. The original owner was apparently not content with simply charging around with that monstrous wing and swoopy nose to attract attention, so he added the outrageous hue and created the ultimate 70s muscle car. This one shows good body gaps, although they were careful to leave the nose cone as the factory did it, which is to say less than perfect. The vinyl roof was designed to hide the fabrication required for the flush-mounted rear window, but theres no evidence on this one, just smooth bodywork without flaws. And the paint has been expertly rendered in two-stage urethane, so theres a shine that they could only dream about in 1970. All the proper Superbird details are there, including the fender scoops, Roadrunner decals, and the simple chin spoiler designed to balance the towering rear wing. Inside, the Superbird was just like any other Road Runner, and could be stripped down for competition or dressed up with everything Ma Mopar had to offer. This one definitely falls into the former group, with slick bench seats offering black upholstery with silver highlights, a column shifter for the TorqueFlite, standard gauges that look highly original, and a block-off plate for the radio. If this one wasnt built for combat, Id be shocked. Whatever its past, it has been lovingly restored, and all the soft parts are brand new, including the carpets, dash pad, headliner, and door panels, all showing zero wear since the restoration was completed. Another look in the trunk reveals an incredibly solid floor, as well as a reproduction mat and full-sized spare with jack assembly. Power comes from the cars original 440 cubic inch V8 topped by a Six-Pack induction system. There are those who will argue that the 440 was a better choice than the Hemi for both durability and civility reasons, and theres no mistaking the brute torque that this one churns out when all six barrels open wide. The engine bay has been detailed for show, including Hemi Orange paint on the block, correct hoses and clamps, and reproduction decals on the air cleaner. Underneath, its spotless, with highly detailed suspension and brake components, a massive dual exhaust system that lets the big V8 breathe properly, and an 8.75-inch rear full of 3.55 gears. Classic Rallye wheels have been fitted with reproduction Firestone Wide Oval tires, making it a high-point contender at any show. The Superbird is rightfully the top of the Mopar food chain, and there arent many much nicer than this. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
