When the 25th anniversary of the Mustang rolled around, Ford didnt do much to mark the occasion. Thankfully Steve Saleen and company werent going to let 1989 pass without building something to talk about. Their creation is the 89 Saleen SSC - a road course ready Mustang sibling. This is one of just 161 SSCs built and 175 of the 895 cars Saleen produced in 89. All SSCs feature white paint with an exclusive body kit and slanted Saleen graphics. Under the hood lies a potent 292hp 5.0L V8 with a list of Saleen upgrades including special SSC high-flow heads, a modified upper and lower intake manifold, SVO 1:7 rocker arms, 65mm throttle body, Saleen designed headers and a Walker/Dynomax low-restriction exhaust system with chrome tips. Polished aluminum valve covers and a SSC-specific engine plenum plate add some good looks to the bay. Underneath the car, a Borg Warner T-5 distributes power to a Auburn limited slip differential with 3.55 gears. Racecraft springs absorb bumps with the assistance of Monroe Formula GP electronic cockpit-adjustable 3-position struts and shocks. Braking is provided by four-wheel SVO-type disc brakes. At the corners, SSC-specific 5-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in General XP2000 Z-rated tires. The interior has been converted to a two-seater setup with the rear seat removed and replaced by a 4-point roll bar. Supportive bucket seats are wrapped in glove leather that matches accents on the steering wheel, door panels and shifter. A pioneer 120-stereo provides entertainment. All serialized Saleen parts are in place and all numbers have been verified by Saleen.
