 Vehicle Description
This 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 fastback is one stunning survivor. Originality is high on collectors lists these days, but finding a truly original, clean, unmolested car is still like finding a needle in a haystack. More often than not, survivors are base 4-doors with wheezing 6-cylinder engines. Not so with this cool Galaxie 500 hardtop coupe, which sports its original 289, original paint and interior, and a ton of factory documentation. Thats vintage 1967 Wimbledon White on the flanks of this big Galaxie, and while it shows a few signs of use, the overall presentation is simply remarkable for a 45-year-old car. The paint is glossy and bright, with awesome panel alignment that shows off the rust-free and laser straight sheetmetal to great advantage. And no restored car can duplicate the sound of the doors closing on a tight original. Other details, like the chrome bumpers, are also factory-issue. You can see that factory chrome was pretty darned good in 1967, and theres no rust or evidence of parking lot mishaps in their faces. All the original badges, emblems, and even the original dealers badge remain in place, making this an incredible time capsule of a car. Inside is an equally well-preserve blue fabric and vinyl interior that gives new meaning to "full-sized comfort." Its easy to forget how spacious these cars were, but six people could travel cross-country in comfort and style with this one. Fabric seats were an unusual option, and they still look great in this car. In fact, the front buckets are in great shape as they were recently recovered to the closest possible match to the original pattern. Theres nothing that warrants major attention or restoration, and the level of preservation will win this car accolades in HPOF competition. Those are the original gauges and yes, the mileage shown is accurate, with the brushed aluminum trim on the dashboard in excellent condition. The AM radio and heater/defroster both function as they should, too! In back, the massive trunk holds what might be the original spare, and as you can see, even the trunk is very clean while retaining the highest possible level of originality. Galaxies came with a wide variety of engines, but few can argue with the pedigree of Fords sturdy and powerful 289. With a 2-barrel carburetor hidden under the original air cleaner, it makes a respectable 200 horsepower and actually gets pretty decent fuel economy, too. The block still wears original Ford Blue paint, and theres plenty of evidence that this car has been carefully maintained, including new plugs, wires, and hoses. Power steering makes wheeling the big Galaxie around a pleasure, and the quick-shifting 3-speed automatic spins a rugged 9-inch out back. The exhaust offers a muted V8 burble at idle, but cruises quietly in true luxury car fashion. The chassis is clean and rust-free, with 215/75/15 whitewall radials on the original wheels and hubcaps. Original documentation includes the owners manual and Fords version of the Protect-O-Plate warranty card. This car is an absolutely slam-dunk in preservation-class judging, plus its comfortable and handsome as well! A cool car with a great bit of history. Call today!
